At the EGSIC, the focus is on real-world learning, fueled by curiosity and innovation. Students are encouraged to take risks through the process of trial, error, reflect, evolve - four words that are vital to our success.

An extension of the Handley experience, the EGSIC welcomes 400+ students each semester to expand their learning in a new environment. Most students spend either a morning or afternoon at the EGSIC, and some spend the entire school day based on their course schedule.

Foundations of Learning

An Interdisciplinary Approach

The Innovation Center is interdisciplinary and organized into industry themes where Career & Technical Education (CTE) teachers, core academic teachers, and students work together on authentic, real-world projects.

While attending the Innovation Center, students take one CTE course and one core class. As a division, we have the goal that every JHHS student will attend the Innovation Center at least once during their high school career.

Student Ownership of Learning

The Innovation Center is flexible with time and space - there are no bells here, and students and teachers work freely throughout the building. The environment is driven by students’ voice and choice. Instead of being traditional, passive learners, they are innovative, empowered learners.

Our teachers are facilitators of learning, designing content that uses technology, Artificial Intelligence, and social media platforms to ignite students’ creativity. Students have choices to express what they know - whether through YouTube videos, blogs, podcasts, or physical creations they build themselves.

Collaboration with Industry Partners

The EGSIC empowers students with 21st century readiness skills through an integrated, project-based learning approach that connects with local industry to develop life-ready graduates that are highly skilled, self-directed and community-minded.

From High-Quality Work-Based Learning to collaborative classroom projects, local industry partners are an essential part of education at the Innovation Center.

Three Academies

Three academies are housed at the Innovation Center, each offering programs that equip students with the skills and credentials needed for a career in their respective field. Each academy looks and feels like the real world of work, and students navigate their time as if in the real world: collaborating with their peers, meeting deadlines, navigating time constraints, scheduling meetings with experts, and completing projects.
